Description
Delhi Police has denied permission for the October 2 protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Section 163 of the BNSS is in force in New Delhi, and police have put up multi-layer barricades on routes leading to Jantar Mantar. The protest site has been blocked from the Tolstoy Marg and Kerala Bhawan sides, with further barricading near Ashoka Road.
Around 5,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police, reserve forces, RAF and other paramilitary personnel, have been deployed. Police vehicles are stationed on approach roads, CCTV feeds are being monitored, and anti-riot gear and drones are also part of the security arrangements.
Entry and exit at 11 Delhi Metro stations have been shut, while traffic restrictions and diversions are in place across Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, Tolstoy Marg, Connaught Place and adjoining areas.
And on the ground, protesters who have managed to reach the area are being detained – including AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj and party workers today. Earlier, more than 60 protesters, including Neha Bora, Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, were detained near Jantar Mantar during a similar protest.
The stated reason: no permission has been granted for the gathering.
