From a Spine Fracture to Walking Pain-Free Again: Mr. N.C. Gupta’s Journey
Manipal Hospitals · · 1 views
Description
At 85, a fall left Mr. N.C. Gupta with severe pain and difficulty walking. An MRI revealed a spinal fracture along with pressure on the nerves.
Dr. Hamza Shaikh, Consultant - Spine Surgery, explains how his treatment was planned in stages, keeping his age and condition in consideration. The first procedure, balloon kyphoplasty, helped stabilise the fractured vertebra and significantly reduce his pain. A second minimally invasive procedure was then performed to relieve nerve pressure and stabilise the spine using pedicle screw fixation.
Today, Mr. Gupta is able to walk and says he is free from the pain he experienced after his fall.
His journey highlights how, in selected older patients, minimally invasive spine procedures can be considered to address fractures, spinal instability and nerve compression while tailoring treatment to individual needs.
Watch Mr. Gupta share his experience and hear Dr. Hamza Shaikh explain his treatment journey.
