Kebbi Tragedy: Police Honour 10 Officers Killed In Battle With Bandits | Dateline Abuja

Ten police officers of the Special Intervention Squad have been killed in an encounter with suspected bandits in Kebbi State. At a memorial parade in Abuja, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed the Nigerian Police Force's commitment to confronting banditry and other violent crimes, saying the officers paid the supreme price while engaging heavily armed attackers in Sakaba Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The police say 17 suspected bandits were neutralised and four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed during the encounter. But beyond the figures lies a sobering question: how equipped and prepared is Nigeria's security architecture to protect the officers on the front lines and the citizens they serve?
