Description
In Mandwariya village in Rajasthan’s Sirohi district, malpuas have become the centre of a bitter social battle.
Families who say they refused expensive mrityu bhoj (funeral feasts) and other community diktats allege they were fined and socially boycotted. The practice of mrityu bhoj has been illegal in Rajasthan since 1960, yet, enforcing that law remains a challenge.
