Is Vande Mataram Against Secularism? Husain Dalwai & Pradeep Bhandari Clash

A fiery debate erupts over the Vande Mataram controversy, with former Congress MP Husain Dalwai arguing that some of the song’s later stanzas contain Hindu religious imagery and that imposing them risks India’s secular character. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari hits back, arguing that Vande Mataram represents patriotism, not Hindutva, and accusing the Congress of deliberately conflating national pride with communal politics. The face-off also touches on the song’s history, the freedom struggle, the Constitution, and the use of religious references in the Indian Army’s war cries.
