Come join us for our life in Tokyo, Japan vlog where we highlight what it is like living in Japan as foreigners by showing you a typical non-travel day where we do things like go grocery shopping, do our laundry, work on video editing and grab a cheap inexpensive local meal. We start off the day by showing you guys our breakfast in our apartment in Tokyo which was basically just green tea, peanut butter, banana and bread. Afterwards we do a bit of work on our computers before heading out to do laundry. Lunch consisted of visiting an inexpensive ramen joint where Audrey ordered a bowl of ramen and I had mixed rice with a sweet and sour glaze and shrimp. Next up we picked up some fruit from a local vendor before doing some more filming work and having dinner in our apartment which consisted of sushi and red wine. To finish things off we show you around our neighborhood at night. So yeah basically this is our life in Tokyo, Japan on a typical day. Do you have experience living in Japan as a foreigner? Let us know in the comments below. 🇯🇵☔️ A Day in Our Life in Tokyo: Casual Sunday, Local Eats, Laundry, Sushi & Night Walks! 🥢🍜🍣【Tokyo Vlog】 🌧️ Lazy Sunday Morning in Tokyo Good morning from Tokyo! It's a rainy Sunday, so we're taking it easy and sharing a behind-the-scenes look at a typical day in our lives here in Japan. Today, we’re skipping the sightseeing and food tours for a more casual, cozy experience: home breakfast, errands, and enjoying our local neighborhood. 🍞 Breakfast at the Chabudai: Western Twist in Japan We start our day sitting at our chabudai (traditional low Japanese table) with breakfast. Today’s meal: chunky peanut butter, raisin toast, banana, and honey—definitely not a classic Japanese breakfast, but a welcome treat after weeks of rice, miso, and fish! Sam fasts most mornings and sips green tea while Audrey savors her sweet Western-inspired breakfast. 💻 Sunday Routine: Editing, Laundry & Daily Chores With a backlog of videos to edit, our morning kicks off with some laptop time and Final Cut Pro. Laundry day is here! Since we don’t have a washing machine in our Tokyo apartment, we pack up our clothes and walk to the neighborhood laundromat (just 2 minutes away). The laundromat is affordable (200–300 yen for washing, 100 yen per 10 minutes for drying) and essential, as most Tokyo apartments are too small for in-unit machines. Pro tip: Don’t forget your detergent—but vending machines have you covered if you do! 🚶‍♂️ Neighborhood Walk: Green Escape from the City While the laundry dries, we take a stroll through quiet residential backstreets—a total contrast to Tokyo’s busy main roads. This area features charming houses, tree-lined paths, and beautiful flowers. It’s a peaceful world apart from the city buzz and helps make Tokyo feel more like home. 🍜 Cheap & Tasty Lunch: Ramen & Omurice Laundry done, it’s time for lunch! We visit our local ramen spot near the subway—budget-friendly and delicious. The menu highlights: Ramen bowls start at just 290 yen (about $2.50 USD)! Mixed fried rice and ramen add-ons for just a little more. We order crispy gyoza (dumplings), a hearty ramen bowl loaded with noodles, bean sprouts, mushrooms, egg, meat, and chives, plus omurice (Japanese omelet over fried rice with shrimp and sweet-sour sauce). Everything is filling, flavorful, and perfect for a rainy day in Tokyo! 🍎 Fruit Shopping on a Budget After lunch, we swing by a local produce shop—not a supermarket—to stock up on fruit. Japan’s supermarket fruit can be expensive (especially for gift boxes), but small local shops offer better deals. Today’s haul: apples, bananas, and blueberries for just 640 yen. 🎥 Productive Afternoon: Filming in Our Tokyo Apartment The afternoon is spent filming two videos: A Japanese apartment tour A Japanese Kit Kat taste test (with hilarious sugar crashes!) After sampling dozens of Kit Kat flavors, we’re craving something salty—perfect excuse for an evening grocery run. 🍣 Dinner at Home: Sushi Sets, Kimchi & Red Wine Dinner is a mix of sushi from the local grocery store, kimchi, green tea, and—oddly enough—Chilean red wine! We discuss the quirks of pre-packaged sushi (including grilled salmon skin) and wind down with this satisfying, non-traditional Japanese meal. 🌆 Evening Walk: Tokyo’s Peaceful Neighborhoods at Dusk With the sun setting, we take you on a nighttime stroll through our area. Sunday nights are the quietest—just a few joggers, pink clouds, and soft city lights. Our favorite route follows a stream with tree-lined paths and occasional views of city skyscrapers glowing in the distance. These walks are our daily dose of calm, making Tokyo feel both exciting and homely. 🏠 Wrapping Up: A Slice of Real Life in Tokyo We close the day reflecting on life as temporary Tokyo residents (month in 1 place is a long time for full-time travelers!).
