Description
“Natane” is a simple Japanese-style scrambled egg dish that my grandmother on my father’s side used to make for me when I was little. She lived in Shiga, Japan.
“Natane” means canola flowers in Japanese. This simple scrambled egg dish is named after bright yellow canola flowers!
It’s similar to scrambled eggs, but not as soft or runny. She would whip it up in no time, and it was one of my favorite things to eat whenever I visited her. I loved it so much that I enjoyed having it not only for breakfast, but also as a snack.
Now, my daughter has fallen in love with it too and often asks me to make it for her as an after-school snack.
Of course, too much of anything isn’t good, but eggs are a great source of protein, so it makes a simple and satisfying snack for my daughter, who does cheerleading.
It’s such a simple dish, but it brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother. ❤️

Natane (Simple Japanese-Style Scrambled Eggs) なたね(炒り卵)
The perfect amount for making soft, fluffy scrambled eggs every time!
Difficulty: Very Easy
Time: 3min
Number of servings: 1
Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 tbsp. milk
a pinch of salt
Directions:
1. Crack two eggs into a saucepan, add the milk and a pinch of salt, and mix well.
2. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with chopsticks, until the eggs slowly begin to set.
3. Once the eggs start to set around the edges of the pan, continue stirring until they reach your desired consistency. Turn off the heat while they are still moist. The eggs will continue to cook from the residual heat, so it’s best to leave them slightly soft.
