Why do we lose muscle faster as we get older?

Description
“Why does holding onto muscle become harder as we get older?”
Part of the answer is something called anabolic resistance.
When we're younger, our muscles respond quite strongly to things like resistance exercise and protein.
As we age, that response becomes less powerful.
At the same time, many people gradually become less active.
We walk less, lift fewer heavy things and spend more time sitting.
Hormonal changes, illness and inadequate protein can contribute as well.
Put these together and muscle mass can gradually decline.
This age-related loss of muscle is part of what we call sarcopenia.
But here's the important part.
Ageing doesn't mean muscle loss is inevitable.
Resistance training and adequate protein can still stimulate muscle even much later in life.
That’s how I’ll Bend it today.
You can't stop ageing — but you can give your muscles a very good reason to stay.
