Why gas but not oil? The Energy Secretary, Miatta Fahnbulleh, has approved the Jackdaw gas field, but is reportedly less keen on the larger North Sea drilling site, Rosebank. The Government approved the Jackdaw project on Wednesday morning after months of delays, saying that it has the potential to deliver around 6 per cent of the UK’s gas production. Ms Fahnbulleh said that while her decision to approve Jackdaw was driven by the need for energy security, the rationale for Rosebank was different because most of its oil would be exported.
