INDepth: LoP Rahul Gandhi Leads INDIA Bloc Protest Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar Over SIR Revision

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi led the INDIA bloc and youth leaders in widespread street demonstrations across New Delhi in October 2026. The political agitation targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition leaders and workers faced detentions after attempting to march to the Election Commission office, staging an eight-to-nine-hour sit-in at Akashvani Bhavan before being released around midnight. Multiple political figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained during the demonstrations, while an FIR was registered by the police. Agitations further extended to Janpath Road, Raj Ghat, and Rashtrapati Bhavan, where a delegation submitted a memorandum alleging voter manipulation to President Droupadi Murmu. Rahul Gandhi and ten other leaders subsequently petitioned the Supreme Court seeking a suspension of the SIR process, full disclosure of digital records, and an independent investigation into electoral roll discrepancies. #RahulGandhi #GyaneshKumar #SIRProtest #INDIABloc #ElectionCommission #DelhiProtest #Congress #SupremeCourt #IndianPolitics #LokSabha #ElectionCommissionOfIndia #PriyankaGandhi #AkhileshYadav #Democracy #BreakingNews Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
