Liver Cirrhosis: Does Every Patient Need a Liver Transplant? | Dr. Shailendra Lalwani

Manipal Hospitals ·

Description

A diagnosis of liver cirrhosis does not necessarily mean that a liver transplant is immediately required. The need for a transplant depends on the stage of cirrhosis and whether complications have developed. In this video, Dr. Shailendra Lalwani, Chairman - Department of Liver Transplant, HPB and GI Surgery, explains the difference between compensated and decompensated cirrhosis and the complications that may indicate the need for a liver transplant, including jaundice, fluid accumulation in the abdomen, vomiting blood, hepatic encephalopathy and effects on the kidneys or lungs. He also explains the two types of liver transplant, living donor and deceased donor liver transplant, and highlights the importance of getting evaluated to understand the right treatment approach.
