Description
Screen time for children can strain near vision and disrupt daily routines. Which simple habits may make device use more comfortable?
For World Sight Day, Dr Neepa Thacker of SRCC Children’s Hospital, managed by Narayana Health, shares practical eye-care habits for children who use screens for school and leisure. She discusses choosing a larger display when practical and avoiding long stretches on a small phone screen. The right amount and type of screen use depends on a child’s age, activities and visual needs.
Dr Thacker suggests frequent pauses from near work: put the device down, stand up, blink and look into the distance. She also discusses screen use close to bedtime and fast-moving games on small devices. Families can use these ideas to create a comfortable routine, while giving children time for other activities and sleep. A child with persistent eye discomfort, headaches, squinting or a change in vision should be assessed by a qualified eye-care professional. Screen habits do not replace an eye examination when symptoms arise.
In this video you will understand:
- Why screen size and viewing distance matter for comfort
- How breaks, movement, blinking and distance viewing fit into a routine
- Why evening device use deserves attention
- When a child’s symptoms call for an eye assessment
