A political war of words has erupted between the BJP and the Congress after lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan described protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as a battle for “regime change”. BJP leaders Nitin Nabin, Rajnath Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hit back, accusing the opposition of seeking to destabilise the country. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera defended the demand for a change of government through elections, citing the 1977 Lok Sabha election. The row comes amid protests by the CJP, AISA and the INDIA bloc over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
