Statecraft: US Green Card Freeze Hits IT Giants | Pakistan Map Redraw Plan | Houthi Strikes
Details
This edition of Statecraft examines escalating geopolitical and policy developments worldwide. Washington has suspended permanent labor certification processing under the PERM foreign worker green card programme for major technology firms, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and Microsoft, citing alleged visa abuse. The move comes as India-US bilateral trade negotiations reach an impasse, raising concerns regarding potential immigration leverage over New Delhi even as affected IT corporations report minimal direct financial disruption. In Pakistan, reported proposals by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to restructure the country's four provinces into smaller administrative units have sparked controversy amid street protests by supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The broadcast also covers regional security developments, including Houthi missile strikes aimed at Riyadh's international airport, an immigration enforcement shooting in New York prompting protests against ICE, and Elon Musk's public remarks regarding regulatory clearance for Starlink services in India.
