Super Six: TVK Joins INDIA Bloc Protest Against CEC In Chennai | SC Quashes Quota On Conversion
Details
The Supreme Court has upheld a Madras High Court ruling determining that reservation benefits cannot be automatically transferred following religious conversion. The judgment affirms that pre-conversion caste or community backwardness cannot be carried forward to claim affirmative action under another religion's notified backward classes, specifically dismissing a Tamil Nadu government order that permitted Hindu converts to Islam to seek Backward Class Muslim status. The ruling arose from the case of Sameer Ahmad, who converted from Hinduism to Islam in 2015. Politically, former Chief Minister MK Stalin has demanded that the TVK government file an immediate review petition. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu witnessed escalating political movement, with former state BJP chief K. Annamalai preparing to contest local body polls, actor Dhanush expanding his fan movement, and the TVK joining protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over Special Investigation revisions. Additionally, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal claimed regional consensus regarding delimitation.
