Canada's top court has laid out a new sentencing framework for cases involving Indigenous offenders against victims of crime.

In a tight ruling, the court said judges must consider their circumstances, and the vulnerability of Indigenous people to abuse and violence.

The decision is supposed to help reconcile the legal system with indigenous justice, but there are questions around whether the guidelines will be followed.
