India's Q1 GDP growth came in at 7.8%, but questions over the new GDP series, base effects and the credibility of the growth numbers have triggered a fierce debate. Is India's growth story genuinely strong, or is it being overstated through statistical changes?
In this conversation with NDTV Profit, Neelkanth Mishra, Executive Director at the World Bank, explains why comparing the old and new GDP series can be misleading, what high-frequency indicators say about the economy, why strong GDP growth may not always "feel" strong on the ground, and how oil prices, FDI, foreign capital, the rupee and the Iran conflict could impact India's growth outlook.
