Found Dead With Organs Missing: A Mother’s Search for Answers | Oz True Crime Ryan Singleton was 24 when he was found in Death Valley. His eyes, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys were gone. So were his tattoos, which his mother Iris believes were taken so nobody could identify him. Dr. Oz and investigator Tia Brown look at the illegal organ trade and how people end up inside it. Some sell willingly. Some are coerced or forced. Others are moved by brokers who match buyers with sellers and take a cut. The prices explain the pressure. A heart runs 130,000 to 160,000 dollars. Lungs, pancreas or liver can go past 150,000. Kidneys sit around 100,000, corneas around 30,000. Legal transplants work nothing like this. They are needs based, donated through organisations, and the organ itself costs nothing. But a new name joins the waiting list every 10 minutes, and that desperation is what the market feeds on. The video also covers other deaths that were never fully explained. Jason Smith, 14, found in Louisiana in 2011, ruled an accidental drowning with organs missing. Kendrick Johnson, 17, found inside a rolled gym mat in Georgia in 2013, his organs replaced with newspaper. Vance Anderson, 51, whose organs were removed at a hospital without his family agreeing to it. Nancy Scheper Hughes, a professor at UC Berkeley who has spent years tracking this, explains transplant tourism and how illegal organs reach US hospitals, sometimes with coerced donors passed off as relatives.
