Ballet icon Misty Copeland weighed in about Timothée Chalamet’s recent comments about ballet. The acclaimed dancer responded after the ‘Marty Supreme’ star made headlines for suggesting that ballet and opera are dying art forms, comments he previously shared during a CNN and Variety town hall. During a recent panel discussion for Aveeno, Misty addressed the irony of the moment, pointing out that she was invited to help promote ‘Marty Supreme’ and even previously appeared in a branded jacket shared on the film’s official Instagram page. While she acknowledged that ballet and opera may not dominate pop culture the way movies do, Misty emphasized their enduring cultural relevance, noting that both art forms have survived for more than 400 years. The timing is especially notable as both Misty and Timothée are set to appear at the 2026 Oscars on March 15. Misty, who retired from the American Ballet Theatre in 2025, will perform as part of an Oscar‑nominated song, while Timothée is nominated for Best Actor.
