Getting ghosted by a consulate. Here is my extremely fun process of getting a French visa to live in Paris (sarcasm) - yes, I'm living in Paris for the next few months! There is no “proving yourself” or much back-and-forth with a consulate or La Préfecture. I studied abroad in Paris for an academic year in 2011-2012, and the entire visa process was not nearly as complicated. I visited the consulate in the USA once, and my passport was sent back to me via mail. Upon arrival, I do remember having to schedule an appointment at the OFII (Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration), where you will undergo a medical physical (It was not like an American physical...I remember the French doctor asked if I read and I was like…umm?).
