In the early 1980s, Mark Atkeson arrived in Beijing on an almost empty Boeing 747. What he saw was a quiet, unfamiliar country of bicycles, few cars and little neon – but also a place he believed was on the cusp of something big. He came back determined to learn Chinese, then spent much of his career betting on #China – from manufacturing and aviation to venture capital, technology and electric vehicles. Mark describes his journey as "surfing the economic wave" of China's transformation. In this episode of Hello from the Other Shore, he looks back at the bets, surprises and turning points that came with riding that wave.
