Anthony Bourdain returns to northern Thailand—Chiang Mai province, once known as the kingdom of a million rice fields—alongside chef Andy Ricker, the American behind Pok Pok, who has spent twenty-five years crossing back and forth in pursuit of a cuisine most of the world has never really tasted. In the rice country outside the city, Bourdain finds a farmhouse where breakfast arrives with lao khao, rice whiskey distilled out back and pounded with a wooden mallet, poured by hosts who will not let a glass sit empty.
