Why is everyone buying Pokémon cards? | ABC NEWS Loop

Description

Pokémon fans across the country have been lining up in droves to get their hands on the first cards from the 30th anniversary set.

It comes as the Pokémon Trading Card Game is booming in popularity and value, with an estimated worldwide market cap of more than $100 billion.

Earlier this year, US influencer Logan Paul sold a rare Pikachu card for a record-breaking $22 million AUD. The surge in the Trading Card Game's popularity has sparked a task force in Japan that will look into ways of regulating the market.

In Australia, fans say they struggle to get their hands on new cards, with many stores selling out within hours of a new set's release.
